National Good Neighbor Day

In the early 1970s, Becky Mattson of Lakeside Montana created National Good Neighbor Day as a day to connect with and recognize the importance of good neighbors.

Personally having found a deep value for community and the importance of building relationships in our generally independent culture, I set out to meet the neighbors. My hope was to bring a sense of safety and trust to our neighborhood through relationship and to inspire those around me to do the same.
